Environmental Approvals under the EPBC Act

Range to Reef provided a range of services to Phosphate Resources Ltd in support of environmental approvals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 on Christmas Island. Two examples are provided below.

​Phosphate Mining at South Point, Christmas Island​

 

Range to Reef managed this approvals project which were successfully concluded in 2014 with EPBC Act approval of the proposed action and determination of environmental offsets for the project.

Range to Reef provided the following services in support of this environmental assessment:

  • Prepared referral documentation and additional information to assist with a referral decision

  • Undertook targeted flora and fauna surveys

  • Prepared a “Preliminary Documentation” report

  • Prepared and released of appropriate advertisements and notices to fulfill statutory requirements for the public comment period

  • Considered issues arising from the public comment process and provisioned additional information to decision makers

  • Liaison and discussion with the Commonwealth Department of the Environment with respect to environmental offsets and other issues raised in the assessment

Proposed Exploration Drilling, Christmas Island 

Range to Reef is managing this project which is seeking approval for a proposed exploration drilling program across Unallocated Crown Land (UCL) along the eastern seaboard of Christmas Island. The project was determined to be a controlled action and is currently being assessed at Preliminary Documentation.

Range to Reef is providing the following services in support of this environmental assessment:

  • Prepared referral documentation and additional information to assist with a referral decision

  • Undertook targeted flora and fauna surveys

  • Prepared a “Preliminary Documentation” report

  • Prepared and released of appropriate advertisements and notices to fulfill statutory requirements for the public comment period

  • Will be reviewing issues arising from the public comment process and provisioned additional information to decision makers

  • Will undertake liaison and discussion with the Department of the Environment with respect to proposed environmental offsets and other issues raised in the assessment.
