Marine Protected Area Planning

Our staff have extensive experience in marine protected area (MPA) planning, marine spatial planning (MSP), developing legislation, management procedures, performance assessment frameworks, and consultation with marine stakeholders.


We have had extensive experience in working with stakeholders from fisheries, oil & gas, indigenous, aquaculture, ports & shipping groups and developing consensus outcomes. 


Planning activities include;

  • Marine Spatial Planning and MPA zoning

  • preparation of information for planning

  • spatial tools and decision support tools

  • community consultation

  • stakeholder management

  • education programs

  • allocation of legislation

  • liaison with key industry stakeholders


Range to Reef have provided services to government to facilitate marine parks in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and developed a management plan for the Aldabra Atoll World Heritage area in the Seychelles.


Range to Reef also completed a government project to assist with  "Knowledge Transfer"  of temperate marine research outcomes to MPA managers and planners on the Central West Coast.
