NEW EMS REQUIREMENTS MINING LESSEES AND MINE PROPONENTS IN WA

June 14, 2016

Under proposed amendments to the WA Mining Act, proponents undertaking activities approved via a Mining Proposal and all holders of mining leases and miscellaneous licences will need to have an Environmental Management System (EMS).

This is  an important step to facilitate a regulatory approach that is less prescriptive and focused on producing good environmental outcomes. The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) approach will ensure all proponents and prospective licensees have a structured approach to planning via a risk-based system.

Range to Reef Environmental have experience in developing and implementing EMS for mining companies. If you are looking for advice on developing an EMS for your company please give Roget Bibby a call on (08) 93356223 or email roget@rangetoreef.com
